EPA-0395: Brazil nuts, rain forest of Peru. A youngster sits by a bag of Brazil nuts harvested by indigenous people in the rain forest of the Tambopata River region in the upper Amazon Basin of Peru. Income from sale of these and other nondestructive products, plus ecotourism, provide sustainable income for the people and help preserve the rain forest from destructive logging and mining. The local village is called Infierno.
